A view of Bag End, Bilbo and Frodo Baggins house at the North Side of the Shire, dug into the Hill. Although the door is open, you cannot enter the home (the guide said it is maybe 4 feet deep anyway; what you see of the home's interior in the movie was filmed on a sound stage). Should I have said "Spoiler Alert" befor revealing that fact? A scene from our tour of the Hobbiton set, made famous in the "Lord of the Rings" movie series. Located on the Alexander Sheep Farm near Matamata, New Zealand, the 12 acre movie set is a must-see for fans and is a delight for those who aren't familiar with the movies, too. 44 permanently constructed Hobbit Holes are on the site, as well as the Green Dragon Inn. Anything outside of a Hobbit Hole is artificial; a prop for the movie. It was springtime in the Shire when we visited. Baby Lambs were bounding everywhere. September, 2016 |
